Tonight the Echo Chamber presented the annual “Word Beat I Powa” dub poetry, beat poetry, and spoken word special. Of course, it was dub poetry that set the foundation and included the dub poets Ras Takura, Jazz’min Tutum, Haji Mike, Mutabaruka, Jean Binta Breeze, Benjamin Zephaniah, Oku Onoura, and of course, the incomparable Linton Kwesi Johnson.
New music this morning included Nice Nice, The Do, Trampled By Turtles and a sibling duo: Angus Julia Stone, who have one of the most beautiful websites for a music group that I have visited in my new music research. Try angusandjuliastone.com:http://www.angusandjuliastone.com and see what you think!
Another night filled with new releases alongside a few classic tracks. Brand new releases from Gaudi, Sista Mika, Jazz’min Tutum, Massive Attack, Natalie Merchant (yup!), Uffe, Dub Compressors, and Brain Damage Black Sifichi.
Thanks to Johnny D of Radio Antilles:http://www.kfai.org/radioantillies and Shanna Gratton from Variations on a Theme:http://www.kfai.org/variationsonatheme for their super-fun presences this 2nd pledge drive edition of PWB. We heard Nice Nice, Shearwater, and the Mother Banjo Band doing Bad Company. Yes. That really happened, and it was really fun to share it on a Tuesday morning with you!
