Another week filled with excellent new releases. Topping the list was the fantastic “Prester John Sessions” from Tommy T (on Easy Star). More great new stuff from: Sushidread, King Midas Sound, Tony Dubshot, The Black Seeds, The Technician, Babilonci, Nneka, and Aldubb. Also, the new compilation “All Kinda Wall” on Dubkey.

New stuff we heard today: We All Have Hooks for Hands (out today), Pert’ Near Sandstone’s new one (on the heels of their very fine CD release show), and New York chanteuse Margot Blanche. Her album, Pages in My Diary, reveals a flexible persona who switches from torch song to funky hip-hop number as smoothly as Madonna went from material girl to earth mother way back when. This is to say, you can’t tell which style is really her own, but they all work fine.

Tonight was our annual All Jamaican special in memory of my late father-in-law Robert. And what a list of great reggae artists and groups: Desmond Dekker, Jimmy Cliff, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Lee Perry, Cornell Campbell, Burning Spear, Marcia Griffiths, Derrick Morgan, Toots & The Maytals, Alton Ellis, The Congos, The Abyssinians, Bim Sherman, and many more…

Here’s the deal: tons of new music hit stores this week. It was hard not to play all the highlights, but we only have three hours, and lots of artists coming to town and other news to share. So stream the archive around a half-hour in to the show, and listen for the long list of the best of this week’s new stuff. What we heard: Willie Murphy, Pieta Brown, Fela Kuti, and a lot more.
