Just back from his European tour, José James entertained us for the evening playing his instruments and singing to the instrumental tracks of his albums including his newest release "Contigo".
James is a multi-instrumentalist and genre-blending musician born and raised in Panama.
James credits artists like James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, and the Beatles, as well as Calypso, Cumbia, Salsa, and Samba sounds as his primary sonic influences. Schooled in trombone, saxophone, and classical flute, James’ sound is an expansive, eclectic medley of jazz, pop, and hip-hop.
James’ work has been featured in multiple movies and television programs. He is a three-time Minnesota Hall of Fame inductee the winner of a Minnesota Music Award.
James has toured the globe with big wigs like Tracy Chapman, Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, The Kinks, The Clash and Prince.
