You're invited to join Jackson Buck for his montly music series at Harriet Brewing "Freewheelin' 1st Friday". This month's guest are Matt Arthur & The Bratlanders plus from Boston, the ever-entertaining Eric Sommer.
Eric Sommer: 7pm
Eric broke out of the Boston folk music scene with a mixture of roots-pure, fingerstyle acoustic guitar and new wave pop, a blurred combination of Nick Lowe, The Cars and Spider John Koerner influences. A high energy, talented performer, it's been a while since Eric has played the Twin Cities.
Matt Arthur & The Bratlanders: 9pm
Matt Arthur is a fiercely contrarian Southern Minnesota blind man with a voice that calls to mind Johnny Cash, John Darnielle, and Nick Cave. The band is led by identically-bearded twins, and the group’s rootsy sound is an amalgamation of rustic folk, old-time blues, early country-western, southern rock, indie dirges, and bombastic anthems. The songs would shuffle sweetly through a playlist packed with early-70s Stones, Crazy Horse-era Neil Young, and more recent offerings from Deer Tick and the Drive By Truckers.
