Greater Twin Cities United Way’s third annual Action Day is a celebration engaging and mobilizing volunteers to LIVE UNITED and make a significant impact to the areas of need within our community.
United Way Action Day Speed Volunteering opportunities –You can make a difference in just 15 minutes by assembling:
Basic need kits – Government food programs do not allow the purchase of laundry soap. These kits will provide laundry soap and care instructions so low-income families can wash their own clothes.
Dental supply kits – Tooth decay is the leading cause of school absenteeism. These kits will help provide bright smiles for children and pregnant mothers.
Education kits – Children from families with limited resources hear 32 million fewer words by the time they are five years of age than children from middle class families. These kits will provide items to help a child learn and grow.
Healthy snack packs – Children represent 39% of food shelf recipients. These packs will provide essential nourishment to hungry children in our community.
Warm bed packs – On any given night in Minnesota, approximately 13,100 individuals are homeless. These packs will provide blankets to help comfort a child, adult or senior.
United Way will also be hosting a Back to School Supply Drive on Action Day. This drive will collect much needed school supply items to make a difference in a child’s life by giving them a great start to the school year. You may either drop off physical school items at Mall of America in the Southeast Court between 10 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on August 14, or make a donation online at: www.gtcuw.org/school
