KFAI is proud to sponsor Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars at the Cedar Cultural Center on Thursday, April 3, at 7:30 pm.
Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars are coming back, bringing a new album – Libation – as they celebrate their 10-year anniversary!
For these recordings, the band returns full circle to the rootsy, acoustic, "around the campfire" sound that appeared on their first album, much of which was recorded in the refugee camps during the years in exile from Sierra Leone.
The new album demonstrates and celebrates how far they have come as a group. A sense of joy, passion for music, and love-of-life shines through the new release.
Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars rose like a phoenix out of the ashes of war, and enflamed the passions of fans across the globe with their uplifting songs of hope, faith, and joy. The band is a potent example of the redeeming power of music, and the ability of the human spirit to persevere through unimaginable hardship and emerge with optimism intact.
From their humble beginnings in West African refugee camps, Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars have performed on some of the world’s most prestigious stages, and matured into one of Africa’s top touring and recording bands.
