Mapped By Music

Date:
Thursday, November 19, 2015 - 7:00pm

Our lives are mapped by music. From childhood on, our sonic experiences shape the geographies and contours of our lives. Music has the power to take us back in time, conjuring emotion and dropping us into a specific physical location — connecting us to people and a sense of place.

Think of a specific song or piece of music. Where are you transported and what memory comes to mind?

In an evening of music and conversation, ethnomusicologist Sowah Mensa, percussionist Marc Anderson, and composer Chris Beaty will explore this question through the cartography of their own lives. Join us for an interactive evening of listening, inquiry, and creation – and you'll have the chance to record your audio selfie in the On Being studios.

This event is free and open to the public! RSVP at onbeing.org
