Lorca in a Green Dress

Date:
Friday, April 12, 2013 - 7:30pm to Sunday, April 28, 2013 - 7:30pm
Presented by Pangea World Theater and Teatro del Pueblo
Lorca in a Green Dress is Cruz’s surreal homage to Federico Garcia Lorca, the critically acclaimed poet and dramatist. It’s 1936 in Spain, a time of civil war; Lorca finds himself in a state of flux, struggling to defend himself against an inquisition bent on persecuting him for his political beliefs and sexual identity.
Nilo Cruz became the first Latino playwright to win the Pulitzer Prize for his play Anna in the Tropics in 2003. Born in Cuba in 1960, his father was staunchly opposed to the communist government, and the family fled to Miami when he was nine years old. His body of work is often compared to Lorca’s for his lyrical writing style. He has held residencies at the McCarter, the Public and the New Theatre in Miami. An alumnus of New Dramatists, Cruz has taught playwriting at Brown University and Yale School of Drama.
