Michael Monroe is celebrating a new DVD release, "LIFE OF MY TIME" and his 60th birthday on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the Heights Theater, 3951 Central Avenue Northeast, Columbia Heights, MN 55421 with a 1pm reception and 1:45 concert as well as a preview of his new DVD.
Monroe received a Fellowship Grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council to create a DVD featuring recent concert footage as well as his of his band from the 80s. There is also a visit with Gunflint Trail luthier David Seaton who built all Monroe's guitars two of which are made from 200 year old wood recycled from the bottom of Lake Superior and are true works of art.
Monroe also talks from his Log Cabin about his good fortune of following his musical passions over forty years which includes performances in US Virgin Islands, a hiatus in India where he found inspiration and new instruments and about his collaborations with National Geographic Photographer Jim Brandenburg leading to his soundtrack for Brandenburg's "Chased By The Light" documentary seen on PBS.
Monroe's move to the North Shore was a rustic start for eleven years using solar power. His current log home allows he and his business partner/wife Debra Mueller to present Log Cabin Concerts for the past seven years, where guests find the warmth of their cabin reception and an intimate performance. Cabin Life Magazine featured two of his recent albums in their December 2012 issue:
"If you’re in need of some musical therapy at the cabin this winter, try these two albums by musician Michael Monroe. Both feature genuine lyrics and soothing harmonies…"
Michael Johnson will be joining Monroe for his 5th annual New Year's Eve weekend Log Cabin Concerts on 12/30-31/2012. This year Claudia Schmidt is also a special guest 12/28-29/2012 evenings. To find out more about Log Cabin Concerts call 612-789-2255 or www.michaelmonroemusic.com/lcc.html
