Larry Nugent and Patsy O'Brien in Concert

Date:
Saturday, November 3, 2012 - 8:00pm
“Laurence Nugent is a traditional Irish musician who adds subtle traces of jazz, classical and world music to the old melodies. He manages to gently stretch the boundaries of Irish music without sacrificing the essential character of the tunes. Even when Nugent adds new twists to the old tunes, his playing always remains true to his Celtic roots."-Michael Simmons, Rhythm Magazine
Hailing from Lack, County Fermanagh, Larry's playing is steeped in the musical traditions of that area, a place unique in Irelands musical history. Cultural traditions in this largely rural community evolved virtually untouched by outside influences. Larry's father Sean Nugent, an All-Ireland fiddle champion and leader of the Pride of Erin Ceili Band, was instrumental in cultivating and nurturing those traditions, and ultimately passing them down to artists like his son.
Accompanying Larry on guitar will be Cork-born, award-winning musician Patsy O'Brien. Patsy has toured extensively with Eileen Ivers, Paddy Keenan, Cathie Ryan, Teada and numerous other ensembles. A Saint Paul resident and local favorite, Patsy O'Brien's driving and inspired guitar style compliments Larry's flute playing delightfully.
