Kathy Griffin

Date:
Saturday, December 1, 2012 - 9:30pm

Special note: These two State Theatre shows are being filmed for Kathy Griffin's next stand up special on Bravo, slated to air in December.

Kathy Griffin, the multi-Emmy Award-winning comedian known for her rapid fire wit, razor sharp celebrity gossip and self-deprecating humor, returns by popular demand for two shows only at the State Theatre. Fresh off her Emmy nominated comedy special, “Kathy Griffin: Tired Hooker,” the star of the new Bravo show “Kathy” is bringing her stand-up show back to the Twin Cities. Her return engagement follows capacity crowd performances at the Orpheum in 2008 and 2010.

Kathy Griffin is a Chicago native who began her stand-up career in the early 1980s performing with famed comedians Phil Hartman and Lisa Kudrow at The Groundlings, a Los Angeles improvisational troupe. Her role as the acerbic co-worker on the NBC sitcom “Suddenly Susan” launched her fame, and she has since honed a comedy career by poking fun at her modest place in the Hollywood hierarchy and mocking such celebrities as the Jonas Brothers, Sandra Bullock and Cher.

Griffin’s reality show, “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List” on the Bravo cable network, earned her two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Reality Program in 2007 and 2008. In February 2010, she took on a more serious role playing a lesbian activist on NBC’s “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” and she remains a major ally for the LGBTQ community. She is a 2009 GLAAD Vanguard recipient and a 2011 Trevor Project Life Award honoree. Her tell-all autobiography, “Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin,” was a New York Times bestseller and her first comedy album, 2008’s “For Your Consideration,” received a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album. Griffin also performed for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
