Jawaahir Dance Company's 21st Annual Henna Party
Join us as we bring the Middle East to the Midwest with a traditional Middle Eastern women’s party, Sunday, January 19, 2014, 2:00–5:00 p.m., at the Jawaahir Dance Company studio in Minneapolis!
Delight in an afternoon of henna, dance, food, and friendship. Jawaahir Dance Company inspires you with a short, captivating performance at 2:00 and then invites you to the dance floor for informal instruction in basic dance moves during the open dance party. Dance, indulge in the ritual of henna painting traditionally done at women's celebrations, enjoy refreshments, and mingle with friends and company members. Experience the hospitality the Middle East is known for!

For 21 years, Jawaahir’s enchanting henna party has been introducing the general public to the behind-the-scenes customs of the Arab world in a relaxed, fun, and interactive setting. Jawaahir, which means “jewels” in Arabic, presents this special event as part of our mission to promote greater understanding of Middle Eastern culture through artistic, educational, and outreach activities, to bring the rich folkloric heritage of the Middle East to the theater stage, and to make this dance form accessible to all ages. We have a history of presenting exciting theater and school performances and lecture/demonstrations throughout the Metro area. Artistic Director, Cassandra Shore has a national and international reputation for her artistry and authenticity. The Company is a dynamic ambassador for presenting the art and culture of the Arabic world to all age groups.
Jawaahir’s mission is more important than ever — the need for cross-cultural understanding is great, and the call for tolerance crucial. Jawaahir’s artistic programs present powerful alternatives to the negative images of Middle Eastern people so prevalent in American stereotypes and popular imagination. In addition, our programs offer opportunities for Arab-Americans to celebrate their rich and varied culture. Through the enchantment of music and dance, Jawaahir creates a space where cross-cultural appreciation can grow and tolerance can flourish.
