Chicago Afrobeat Project featuring Tony Allen
Friday, July 26, 2013 - 8:00pm
KFAI is a proud sponsor of Chicago Afrobeat Project at the Cedar Cultural Center on Friday, July 26, at 8:00 pm.
One of the top bands in the Afrobeat world, the 8-piece group weaves the sound of the Chicago music scene with a distinct western-influenced Nigerian style of music. Their latest work reaches into new territories by incorporating elements of hip-hop, orchestra-like arrangements, and stylistic explorations of rock, jazz, and funk.
Come find out what happens when Chicago's hottest afrobeat band teams up with legendary drummer Tony Allen, a veteran of fifteen highly influential years playing with Fela Kuti, and frequently cited as a co-founder of afrobeat.
Local afrobeat band Black Market Brass opens. Impala Sound Champions will be DJing after the doors open, before the live show, and between sets.
The summer's hottest dance party – not to be missed!
