KFAI is proud to sponsor Mississippi Peace and Alter Eagle at the Cedar Cultural Center on Wednesday, October 9, at 7:30 pm, as they join forces for an evening of eclectic strings and urban acoustic polygroove folk.
Mississippi Peace is a string-driven, urban acoustic, micro-chamber orchestra dedicated to pushing deep into unexplored rhythmic, virtuosic, and stylistic territories. It features Christopher Cunningham, guitarist; Michelle Kinney, cellist; Melissa Mathews, violinist; Gregory Reese, vocals and accordion; Nicholas Gaudette, bass violin; and Graham O’Brien, percussion.
Alter Eagle is a Minneapolis-based band made up of some of the most diverse musicians in the Twin Cities. The group is led by songstress Molly Dean, a veteran on the Minnesota scene who has recently been performing multiple shows with Garrison Keillor on A Prairie Home Companion. Molly has joined forces with Dan Zamzow of Cloud Cult on cello, Paul Jennings, who has played with artists from Jethro Tull to Red Hot Chili Pipers, on percussion, Nick Gaudette of Orange Mighty Trio on double bass, and Shannon Frid of Cloud Cult & Battery Boy on violin.
Each group will perform a set alone, and then will conclude with a set together featuring all the performers sharing and augmenting each other's music. This is a rare opportunity – not to be missed if you are a fan of either group, or simply enjoy hearing some of the best live music available in the cities today.
