Two world premieres are also on the program—“Fantasy concertante” (2011) written specially for the Balkanicus ensemble by the Bulgarian Vassil Kazandjiev; and “River” (2010) by the Greek Aris Carastathis who will come from Canada for his premiere. The concert will take the listeners to Bulgaria, Macedonia, Greek and Serbia through new and diverse chamber music works from composers of different generations and styles; yet all united by 'spiritus balkanicus'.

The concert will feature leading musicians from the area - Fernando Meza (percussions), Caroline Lemen (horn), Nickolai Kolarov (cello), Alastair Brown (violin), Jill Dawe (piano), Catherine Ramirez (flute).
