People Powered Radio: Twenty-five Years Of Fresh Air (2003 KFAI Documentary)
The heart and soul of KFAI is access and the practice of democratic processes, which though noble, haven't always been congenial. There have been struggles internally and outside of the community of KFAI that have shaped both its course and character.
This documentary, produced for KFAI's 25th Anniversary in 2003, tells a story of a grass roots community radio station coming of age, in a climate of social and political transformation in America. The story of KFAI is one of only about a hundred such alternative media stories in America and it represents the spirit of community radio, and how democracy works.
KFAI is also a story of immigrant populations maintaining their own village grapevine at KFAI. More than thirteen different languages are spoken weekly in programs produced by and for the Twin Cities many immigrant communities.
PEOPLE POWERED RADIO: Twenty-five Years Of Fresh Air, a one hour radio documentary produced, written, & edited by Glenn Austin, Ahndi Fridell & J. Otis Powell! for KFAI'S 25th Anniversary. Production assistance provided by Dan Richmond.
