6/13 in a nutshell…
After kicking off the “Ooh” with a “Ska Craze” set that also included the Twist (Owen Gray), The Jerk (Derrick Harriott), and even some Mashin' It (Gray again), we had a short, unintended skankin' geography lesson which took us to the "South China Sea", "(Man From) Carolina" (North or South? Neither the song title nor the voiceover makes that clear... ) and good ol' KC... "Kansas City". Then we almost got slammed into by a slightly-too-tipsy "Mr. Chauffeur"! Sherwood delivered the psychedelically percussive Hal Blaine's “calendar album” cut “Trippin’ Out (June)” and a three-way mango collision involving Francis Bay, Rosemary Clooney/Frank Comstock (and NOT Perez Prado, our own sloppy research to the contrary notwithstanding... OOPS!) and Shiina Ringo/Saito Neko. We’re sure the visitor from Venus dug it. Oh, and the Night Sky Turned Blue on Sherwood’s watch as well! The Home Stretch highlights included Flamingo Kvintetten’s “Lilla Raringen” (a Lollipop by any other name), a 5@5:05 featuring the following fine bands from well-outside Minnesota who’ve graced Mpls.-area stages in the past: The Skatalites, Westbound Train, The Slackers, The Specials and Bad Manners. Another 2Tone-era band, Madness, came out with a great new album last year that we’ve been missing out on ‘til now! We heard “Misery”. Listen for more fresh Madness in coming weeks! ‘Til then, remember… Oui Oui Si Si Ja Ja Da Da! Oh, and as usual, tune in… and stay tuned.

eating phonebooks with Daevid Allen. Tune in to find out more!
