2/17/2013 Sound Affects: A Radio Playground

Feature Presentation - The Spontoon Islands are an archipelago in the South Pacific circa 1938.  The Spontoon website is inhabited by funny animal cartoons and seaplanes.  Cartoonists from all over the world contribute comic strips and stories.  E. O. Costello contributes radio scripts that reflect the time, the place, and the attitude.  A mashup of Old Time Radio and the Sunday comics.  This script is one of his, and was produced here at KFAI community radio, featuring voices of local actors. (http://spontoon.rootoon.com/SPwRdoCn.html)

If You Can't Stand the Heat is one episode of Headline Chaser, the adventures of Michael Mooney, the new copy editor at the Spontoon newspaper.  But when he hears that local restaurants are having trouble with food gone missing, he has to investigate.  It's what reporters do.

Written by E. O. Costello. Produced by Jerry Stearns. CAST: Don Cosgrove, Amanda Balagur, Jackson Buck Tom Joyal, Mike Fischbein, Dixie Treichel, and Simon Jones (of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio show) as Charles Foster Crane.

Selected Shorts - The Sword in the Couch, a TV sitcom for radio, from the Big Fun Radio Funtime! show, by Fearless Comedy Productions.  Recorded live at the Bryant Lake Bowl. Written by Brian Price and Jerry Stearns.  CAST: Windy Bowlsby, Geoffrey Brown, Don Cosgrove, Dawn Krosnowski, Gordon Smuder, and Tim Wick.  The whole show is available for listening or download at BandCamp.

Coming Attractions - More next week from the Spontoons: It's Shot From Guns, from the series Rosie's Place.  And Rick Dickerson, Cliche Detective, from the Big Fun Radio Funtime! show.
