Sherwood and the Cap’n & Cozy got their Ringo on this week, to celebrate big 3-4 for the creator of Mayonaka wa Junketsu, Shiina Ringo’s Tokyo Ska -fueled stomper from ’01. Which, of course, we Ringrolled you with, as we like to do every now and then, following with Tokyo Jihen’s contribution to J-Ska, the Tomosaka Rie -sung Tokai no Manner. As promised last week, we gave you two Monkey Men, the Jazz Jamaica version from Double Barrel, and The Specials’ Peel session take. Happy GotchaSKAvered! What we seem to have left out of the mix this time is a 5@5:05. How’bout a whopping 10 next show? We can swing that. Meanwhile, in Sherwood’s airspace (“Spacespace”?) a label called Real Gone Jazz got the big bump, as they’ve been issuing “Eight Classic Albums” packages like crazy, or maybe we’re just late to the party. Anyway, Sherwood got his paws on Sun Ra, Les Baxter (at last… theSpace Escapade album!) and Cal Tjader. And of course, lotsa Shiina Ringo-related stuff to celebrate her birthday Sunday, including Tokyo Jihen’s last released song Tadanaranu Kankei, official English title “And the Beat Goes On”. And of course, the “Ooh” gotcha off to a good start with 75 minutes of classic ska oldies… hip, hip, hip, hip!!
A Thanksgiving show of tangos from August of 2010, featuring an interesting interview with Katrina Tomas who ponders the similarities and differences between flamenco and ballet.
