20% Theatre Brings Trans and Queer Voices to the Stage
Produced by Minna Zhou
The Naked I: Insides Out is the third in a series of Naked I plays that explores an unprecedented breadth and depth of trans and gender non-conforming experiences. Led by 20% Theatre Company Twin Cities’s artistic director and founder Claire Avitabile, the performance includes monologues, short scenes, movement pieces, and spoken word poems produced and presented entirely by trans, queer, and allied artists. From one woman’s experience as a trans mother; to a psychologist's personal exploration of the "Transgender Congruence Scale"; to a spoken-word artist’s excavation of the complexities of the trans community, the play gives voice to stories that often go untold. It also speaks to the greater trans and queer movements, touching on such issues as same-sex marriage equality, and the case of CeCe McDonald.
